Long-standing Banbury music shop to close retail outlet - Oxford Mail
Stargoat Sound and Light, based at the Cherwell Business Village on Southam Road in Banbury, is moving to online-only after more than 25 years of trading.
The business started in Banbury as a commercial recording studio in 1988, seeing, among others, Gaz Coombes and the Goffey brothers record before Supergrass was formed.
Later, it shifted into a musical instrument retail in Church Lane from 1999 to 2012 before moving to the current trading site.
Owner of StarGoat, Paul, whose surname as not been disclosed, said: "I am closing the retail outlet at The Cherwell Business Village as I have turned 66 and have been gradually winding it down for the last couple of years.
"Stargoat sells 80 per cent online anyway, with many guitars going abroad, so this is the next step in winding down and a natural move for the business."
The outlet's last day of trading will be on March 15.
It was announced on social media last week that the shop would be closing.
Expressing their disappointment at the news, one shopper said: "Of all the shops that are closing this one is going to be a huge loss as there is nothing like it for miles."
Paul added: "A fair bit of stock still needs to be shifted and a sale of larger items and overstocks is on until the last trading day.
"It has been fun and still is fun running a guitar shop."
